The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart

The Mysterious Benedict Society

The Mysterious Benedict Society is a hefty book of 485 pages, but you won’t mind at all.  Right from the start you will meet the most clever and interesting children who are needed and valued precisely because they are children.  The zany plot, which is filled with neat twists and puzzles, has four special children chosen as a team to work a secret and dangerous mission.  They were chosen after enduring several mind-boggling tests and then asked to go undercover at a special school for enlightened children run by an evil man plotting great world takeover.  The reader will be amazed at the kids’ plotting, skills, cleverness, faithfulness to each other, teamwork, and humor, yes – lots of humor in their attempt to save the world.  You will love the characters and creativity of The Mysterious Benedict Society and though you might be somewhat reminded of the Lemony Snicket  Baudelaire children, you will love Reynie, Sticky, Constance (though the jury is still out on this one), and the Great Kate Weather Machine tons more.  Highly recommended!
