The Boy Who Was Raised By Librarians by Carla Morris

CoverThis is a sweet and funny story of a boy who spends lots and lots of time at the library and the librarians who watch him grow up. The book follows little Melvin from boyhood to manhood (he happens to end up right back at his favorite spot, the Livingston Public Library, as the newest librarian). The librarians Marge, Betty, and Leeola are the wonderful characters who encourage Melvin along the way, as they most likely do with many, many children in the library. By showing Melvin small kindnesses, asking about his day, being excited about his accomplishments, and helping him with his many projects, they become very important people in his life. This book is a wonderful and fun tribute to those who truly care and make a difference in children’s lives in small and big ways each day.

I love this book and plan to read it aloud to students during their first visit to the library this school year.
