The Lion and the Mouse by Jerry Pinkney

The Lion and the MouseThe beautiful lion on the cover of this book drew me to it immediately. No wonder. Jerry Pinkney is the illustrator. His illustrations almost always speak to me. As I turned the book over, behold, there was a mouse. Without a single word on the outside of this book, the story is already set and this newest rendition of a classic Aesop’s fable, The Lion and the Mouse, is by far my very favorite.

This almost wordless book is wonderful! The gorgeous illustrations lead us through the story as we witness the kindness of the mighty lion toward a lowly mouse. This kindness is repaid when the big lion is in need of help from the small mouse. Mighty and lowly. Big and small. We all have an impact on each other. This Aesop’s fable is one that we all should know and remember.
